#STRecruiting: #Clemson MBB plucks a big fish out of the transfer portal

Duke transfer Christian Reeves will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers (Duke Athletics)

Clemson head men’s basketball coach Brad Brownell said Wednesday that he needed to recruit “one or two more guys” out of the transfer portal. He got one of those guys on Thursday.

Joe Tipton of On3 reported Thursday evening that Duke transfer Christian Reeves has committed to the Tigers. The 7-foot-1 sophomore reportedly chose the Tigers over a final group of Florida, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt.

Reeves redshirted this past season, appearing in only three games, and will have three years of eligibility remaining. As a freshman, he participated in 13 games for the Blue Devils, averaging just 3.2 minutes per game.

  • Appeared in a total of 13 games as a freshman, including six ACC contests
  • Averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds during his first year in Durham

2023-24

  • Missed 13 games due to injury before undergoing right ankle surgery and being ruled out for the remainder of the season
  • Logged a career-high 12 minutes in the season opener against Dartmouth, adding three rebounds and two points

2022-23

  • Played in 13 games in his rookie season, including six appearances in ACC play
  • Averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds, hitting 8-of-11 from the field for the season
  • Made his Duke debut against Jacksonville in the season opener with three points and a pair of rebounds
  • Scored four points and grabbed four rebounds in just three minutes of action against Delaware
  • Scored his first points in ACC play with a dunk against Georgia Tech
  • Tallied a career-high with six points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field in six minutes against Pittsburgh in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals

  • A four-star center out of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.
  • Ranked as the No. 5 player from the state of North Carolina in his class by ESPN
  • Played in 29 games during the 2021-22 season at Oak Hill, averaging 9.2 points on .639 shooting with 7.4 rebounds
  • Scored in double figures in 12 games as a senior, including each of his final five contests while logging five double-doubles
  • Played for Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL circuit
  • Committed to Duke on Dec. 14, 2021
  • Chose the Blue Devils over Minnesota and South Carolina, among others
