Dillon OT Josiah Thompson (6-7 290) has taken the honor of being named 2023 Mr. Football South Carolina. Thompson was announced the winner of the award at halftime of the Touchstone Energy North-South Bowl Game in Myrtle Beach, Saturday.
Thompson is just the second offensive lineman to win the award, following Daniel High School’s Kyle Young in 1996. Young went on to a decorated career at Clemson before entering school administration. Young is now in his eleventh year as an associate Athletic Director at Clemson. Thompson has opted to commit to play for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks.
Thompson is regarded in recruiting circles as one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the country for the 2024 class and chose South Carolina over offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, Texas A&M, LSU and Michigan State among others.
The other finalists for the prestigious award were Zion Dobson of Hampton County, Avery McFadden of Hillcrest, Turbo Richard of Northwestern and Watson Young of Daniel.
Thompson helped Dillon to a 10-2 record this season, including a first-round playoff victory over North Charleston.
