The 76th annual Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl is set for a 12:30 kickoff Saturday afternoon at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. This will be the 74th game in the series which is led by the North 40-31-2. The North snapped a three-game losing streak last year scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 22-14 win.
One of the highlights of the day will come at halftime with the naming of Mr. Football for 2023. The five finalists are Zion Dobson of Hampton County, Avery McFadden of Hillcrest, Turbo Richard of Northwestern, Josiah Thompson of Dillon and Watson Young of Daniel.
Two veteran coaches have been in charge of the respective teams this week. North coach Will Young of Greer has won 150 games in 21 seasons. South coach Walt Wilson has 94 wins in 16 seasons.
Thursday night, the two head coaches sat down with us on SportsTalk to talk about their respective teams and what they are expecting Saturday.
