Road weary South Carolina State makes the 40-mile drive to Columbia tomorrow night for their second so-called “money game” of the season. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 56-10 loss at UCF. Since then, they have defeated Bethune-Cookman and lost to North Carolina A&T, both on the road. Their first home game won’t come until October 8th against FAMU.
Tomorrow night’s game will be a homecoming of sorts for State head coach Buddy Pough who coached high school ball in Columbia and spent three seasons on the Gamecock staff under Brad Scott and Lou Holtz. And many of his players call Columbia and the Midlands home as well, so in some regards, it’s a semi-home game for the Bulldogs and their fans, though USC fans will try to make Williams-Brice Stadium as inhospitable as possible for the guys on the field.
Tuesday night on SportsTalk, Pough joined us to talk about his season today and the opportunity awaiting his team Thursday night in Columbia.
