The Coastal Carolina football team is 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play following a 41-24 victory at Georgia State last Thursday. To remain unbeaten, CCU may have to beat two opponents this Saturday: Georgia Southern and “Mother Nature”. With the remnants of Hurricane Ian expected to roll through South Carolina late Friday into Saturday, Coastal Carolina is sticking to its scheduled 4pm start time with the Eagles at Brooks Stadium in Conway. It’s become somewhat of a running joke that the two teams can only play during a storm, as the last two meetings in Statesboro have been highlighted by heavy rains.

On Wednesday, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell held his weekly press conference to preview this Saturday’s showdown with the 3-1 Eagles. Former Southern California head coach Clay Helton has taken over the reins in Statesboro, transforming the offense into a pass-happy attack, featuring QB Kyle Vantrease, who leads the Sun Belt in passing yards. Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, Helton has already endeared himself to the Eagles’ fan base with a 45-42 upset of Nebraska earlier this month.
