#STRecruiting: Alabama athlete makes commitment to #Gamecocks

Kamron Sandlin

ATH Kamron Sandlin (6-4 210) of Anniston, AL plays quarterback for his high school, but he committed to USC Saturday night with the idea of playing the hybrid tight end position that will get the ball in his hands a variety of ways. Sandlin made an unofficial visit to USC Saturday and is their second announced commitment for the day.

The Gamecocks offered Sandlin in May and proceeded to lay out a plan for him to make him a ball hog in their offense. Sandlin said Saturday night that was part of the reason he committed to Shane Beamer.

“It was the atmosphere and the way he said they are going to use me,” Sandlin said. “It just felt like home as soon as I stepped on campus. They plan to use me just like Jaheim Bell. They told me I’d be touching the ball a lot, and I Iove to hear that. As long as the ball is in my hands, I love that. And I love how he’s turning everything around and making it a better place.”

Sandlin said he’s not yet scheduled his official visit with the Gamecocks, and this commitment does shut down his recruiting. He also had offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, UAB, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, Austin Peay and Samford.

Last season Sandlin passed for 1851 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 927 yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s the eighth commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2023 class.
