One by one, the top players from the USC men’s basketball program are entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. Monday morning it was freshman guard Devin Carter, one of the potential stars of the future for the program, who opted into the portal to opt out of the program. Carter follows fellow guards Erik Stevenson and Jermaine Couisnard, and big men Ta’Quan Woodley and Wildens Leveque into the portal.
Carter started seven of 30 games he played this season and averaged nearly 19 minutes per game. He averaged nine points, four rebounds and two assists per game and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
With the five players in the portal, and with two others out of eligibility, the Gamecocks have seven scholarship players left on the roster. This is the second straight off-season for max exodus from the program thru the portal. Last year eight players transferred out. The players left on the roster as of Monday are:
- Keyshawn Bryant
- Chico Carter Jr.
- Brandon Martin
- Ja’Von Benson
- Tre-Vaughn Minott
- Josh Gray
- Jacobi Wright
With veteran players leaving the program, new coach Lamont Paris Monday makes his first pitch to 2023 start 6-10 GG Jackson of Ridge View. Paris is slated to meet with Jackson, his father, his coach and perhaps others at the school following the conclusion of the school day.
