USC won a hard-fought series with UNC-Greensboro over the weekend taking the rubber game 8-7 in 10 innings Sunday afternoon. The Spartans took a 7-1 lead to the bottom of the 9th, but the Gamecocks scored a pair of runs on a Connor Cino pinch-hit homer to make it 7-3. With two outs, they loaded the bases and Andrew Eyster tied the game with a grand slam.
Michael Braswell pitched a perfect top of the 10th for USC, and in the bottom of the inning, Collin Burgess led off with a double, went to third on a passed ball, and scored the winning run by beating the throw to the plate on a grounder to third by Braswell.
Braswell earned the win. Wesley Sweatt also pitched well in relief not allowing two hits and no runs over 3.1 innings. Braylen Wimmer had three hits for the third consecutive day.
The Gamecocks are 2-1 and will host Winthrop Tuesday afternoon and George Washington for a three game series this weekend.
