Clemson handled East Tennessee State 7-3, Tuesday, in the Tigers’ first midweek contest of the season. Freshman first baseman Caden Grice led the offensive attack with three RBI’s on a pair of home runs. Third baseman Max Wagner also homered and second baseman Regan Reid added a two-run double.
The Tigers trailed 3-2 entering the home half of the sixth before catcher Jonathan French singled and scored on Grice’s second long ball, putting Clemson ahead for good. Nick Clayton (1-0) was credited with the win but starter Carter Raffield was more effective, giving up just a run and striking out eight in four innings of work.
Clemson (4-2) will open ACC play Friday, playing host to Notre Dame in Game 1 of a 3-game series. First pitch at Doug Kingsmore Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
