Just like in the Tennessee game to open the season, USC started quickly Saturday at third-ranked Florida, fell behind in the middle part of game, and then fell short in their comeback attempt in a 38-24 loss that makes them 0-2 on the season. The Gamecocks scored on their opening possession and were locked up in a 14-14 tie until the Gators turned the game their way by scoring 10 points in a two minute span late in the first half. The Gators tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter to basically put the game out of reach. The Gamecocks did score the game’s next 10 points to pull within 38-24 midway thru the fourth quarter, but a final 18 play drive that used up 7:23 of the clock ended at the Gator’s four dashed their hopes of a miracle rally.
