Clemson rolled up several commitments going into the big official visit weekend just passed, and Monday afternoon, the Tigers landed their first public commitment post-OVs from DE Desmond Malpress (6-3 205) of Jacksonville. Malpress chose the Tigers over his other finalists of South Carolina, Syracuse, and Florida State.
He made an OV to USC on the first of May, and reports had the Gamecocks out front for him, until he made the visit to Clemson this past weekend.
Malpress was offered by Clemson defensive ends coach Chris Rumph in February, and he also visited for the recruiting event in early March.
Last season, Malpress recorded 15 tackles, with 10 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
He is the Tigers’ 16th commitment for the 2027 class, and the second for the defensive end position. The Tigers had six defensive ends visit over the weekend, and two have committed thus far.
A third, JiQuan Rogers, could announce for the Tigers as early as Tuesday.
