OL Marcus White (6-3 295) has been on the move. First, he has transferred about 25 miles north from Marion High School to Dillon. And second, he has been on the road this spring to meet with coaches and lay the groundwork for what he hopes will lead to more offers.
On Wednesday, White was at Clemson, where he was able to watch the Tigers practice and also visit with Dabo Swinney and offensive line coach Matt Luke.
“I got to talk with Coach Luke and Coach Swinney, and got to listen to the team leaders,” White said. “I toured the facility, the school, the field. It’s definitely different from the other visits I’ve been on, as far as showing more. They were definitely open to being transparent with me on my recruiting process and what goes on behind the doors of Clemson and what the players go through.”
What Luke wants is for White to attend one of their camps this summer and show him where he is relative to the level of linemen they recruit to play guard or center, the positions he will play in college.
“I believe that if I win at least 75% of my reps, I definitely think that he’s going to offer me at the camp,” White said. “If not, then he’ll probably get me later on my senior year.”
Luke will also get another chance to meet with White on Saturday when he makes a return trip for the spring game.
White is also drawing the interest of South Carolina, and he was there for a spring practice on March 6th. He has a return visit set with the Gamecocks for April 9th.
White has also visited Kentucky and Coastal Carolina, and he is going to East Carolina on March 30th, NC State on April 3rd, and Charleston Southern on April 5th. Also in April, he plans two visits to North Carolina, along with stops at Tennessee, Gardner-Webb, and Davidson. He’s also working to schedule an official visit with Charlotte.
White has offers from Charlotte, Benedict, Fayetteville State, and Maine. He’s also hearing from Illinois.
