#3-Georgia Tech 10 — #8-Clemson 0 (F/7 Innings — Game Summary)
- Thursday’s contest was the first night game this season at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers were a perfect 13-0 at home prior to tonight’s “Top 10” showdown
- It was the second time this year that Clemson has been shut out. USC blanked the Tigers 7-0 in Columbia back on February 27th
- Clemson pitcher Aidan Knaak made his fourth start of the season after skipping last weekend’s series with LaSalle. He was sharp early, striking out five of the first six Georgia Tech batters he faced before running into trouble in the third. The Yellow Jackets rapped out two two-run home runs, a double, and a single to grab a 4-0 lead over the Tigers
- In the fifth, GT increased the lead and chased Knaak from the game. Drew Burress led off the inning with his second long ball of the night. Two batters later, Jarren Advincula singled into center field to increase the Yellow Jacket lead to 6-0. Following another base hit, Knaak was replaced by Justin LeGuernic
- Knaak matched his season high with 8 strikeouts, but he allowed 7 runs (6 ER) on 9 hits with one wild pitch
- All told, Georgia Tech scored five runs on four hits with two Clemson errors in the fifth inning to seize control of the game at 9-0
- The Tigers had their best opportunity to cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Clemson loaded the bases as Jacob Jarrell was hit by a pitch, with Jack Crighton and Jarren Purify each earning two out walks. But GT starter Tate McKee struck out Tryston McCladdie to end the threat
- McKee was the perfect complement for Georgia Tech’s offense, working six scoreless innings, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts and five walks. Jake Lankie worked a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
- Knaak fell to 0-2 on the season as Clemson’s record dropped to 15-3 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. Georgia Tech improved to 16-2 on the season and 3-1 in the league
- Game two is set for Friday night at 8pm at Doug Kingsmore Stadium
