South Carolina is in a tough recruiting battle for DE Abraham Sesay (6-5 225) of Exton, PA. The Gamecocks are in his top six with Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, Penn State, and Duke.
Working in their favor is the fact that their new defensive ends coach, Deion Barnes, recruited Sesay while he was at Penn State. The relationship was good then, and it’s growing now that he’s at South Carolina.
“It’s been great being able to still connect with Coach Barnes,” Sesay said. “It’s really good to stay connected with him and see how he’s doing at South Carolina. He’s just explaining how he’ll continue his development at South Carolina. He’s telling me how something is really cooking there, how something is really going good. He’s just been explaining the history and explaining what Coach Beamer has done and what he has planned for the future.”
Sesay has also been talking with Gamecock defensive coordinator Clayton White. In fact, he recently had a FaceTime session with the entire defensive staff.
“They have me playing at the edge position and getting after the quarterback, being able to set an edge and drop in coverage if need be,” Sesay said. “Really be that spot, following the footsteps of some great edges, including Dylan Stewart. It’s definitely great to see that other defensive ends have flourished there and been able to be successful. I love Dylan Stewart’s game and what he’s about, but I like to be myself.”
Sesay has spring visits set with USC March 21st, Florida State March 28th, Miami April 10th, and Notre Dame April 25th. He said his official visits will come from his top six, and following those visits, he’ll be ready to make his commitment.
Last season, Sesay had 80 tackles and 13 sacks.
