Coastal Carolina joins the head coaching carousel, fires Tim Beck after three seasons and three bowl qualifications

Tim Beck is out after three seasons at Coastal Carolina

Release From Coastal Carolina:

Coastal Carolina Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and University Recreation Chance Miller announced Sunday that football head coach Tim Beck has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. Defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson will serve as interim head coach for the upcoming bowl game.

“After a comprehensive review of our entire football program and its trajectory, I’ve determined a change is needed moving forward,” Miller said. “We are grateful to Coach Beck for his efforts the past three seasons. We certainly wish Coach and his family well in their future endeavors. Our expectation for this football program is to win the Sun Belt conference championship and compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and that will guide us in our search for our next head coach.”

A national search for Beck’s successor will begin immediately.

The 59-year-old Beck was hired by the former athletic administration, headed at the time by AD Matt Hogue and head coach Joe Moiglia. He had been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at NC State before moving to Conway for his first head coaching opportunity.

Beck was 20-18 overall and 13-11 in the Sun Belt in his three seasons with the Chanticleers. He won eight games in his first season, including the Hawaii Bowl. His team was 6-7 in 2024 including a loss in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. With the loss yesterday at home to James Madison, the Chants are 6-6 and will play in a bowl game.

Coastal is seeking its fifth head coach in 23 seasons of football. David Bennett, Moglia and Jamey Chadwell preceded Beck.
