6-10 Charles Pur of South Sudan currently attends the Burlington School in North Carolina. The up-and-coming 2027 prospect impressed a lot of coaches over the summer, among them, South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris.
“South Carolina, they’ve been there since June,” Pur said. “Through Peach Jam and all the sessions, the live periods, they’ve always been there. They’ve always been there supporting me, and touch base with me every time. Mostly, South Carolina has been really in touch with me. I’d say they are standing out the most to me.”
Pur got the chance for a close-up look at USC in June at a team camp. He got the chance to talk more with Paris and his staff then, and that further impressed him with the way Paris runs his program.
“It’s just the passion, the love, and everything around it,” Pur said. “When I went to South Carolina in June for the team camp, it was my second time to go there. They showed a lot of love, to be honest. Out of that is how everybody carried themselves, and the basketball part, it’s just a really competitive environment. They really love the game, and they really have interest in making kids reach the next level and developing their game. I know most of the people that committed to South Carolina and gone there to play, like the Ellis brothers. I played against Isaac, and he’s a really great player, and he committed to South Carolina, and that tells me a lot. I just love everything about South Carolina. It’s just a great atmosphere.”
Pur also has offers from Maryland, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Maryland, Charlotte, Western Carolina, Penn State and Mississippi State. Clemson, Georgetown and Houston are three others showing interest.
Despite the strong feelings currently for South Carolina, Pur is not ready to make an early decision on his college career. He has not yet set any official or unofficial visits for the Fall.
“I still have a lot of developing to do. I just thought I’d wait,” Pur said. “I pray because every time I think he’s going to lead me to the right way. That’s just not a simple decision to make, it takes a lot. I’m just praying and walking in my faith, because without God, I can’t make a decision. I’m still working hard and praying that everything falls in place. If South Carolina is the right place, then it will happen.”
