One of the last of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2026 class, OG Darius Gray (6-3 285) of Richmond, will announce his commitment decision Friday at 7:00 PM. USC and Clemson are among his finalists, and he has taken official visits to both. However, based on recent reports, the Tigers don’t appear to be in play at this point.
South Carolina definitely is, along with LSU and Tennessee. At one time or another, each has been viewed as “having the momentum” with Gray. In the last week, stories on Gray have indicated South Carolina may have the edge going down the stretch. Chad Simmons of Rivals had a report on Gray in which he projected him to South Carolina.
However, Rivals lead recruiting analyst, Steve Wiltfong, projected Gray to LSU in mid-June and has not changed that opinion, yet. The 247 recruiting service has yet to offer up a projection on Gray.
What does all this mean? We talked with Gray Sunday night about where things stand with him going into his week of decision.
This young man is the kind of person that any of the schools on his list would benefit from him attending their program. I wish him the best where ever he may go, but being a Gamecock fan I really hope we are lucky enough for him to attend our school and help Coach Beamer bring our program to where we want to be. That’s to the top of the SEC and a National Championship.
