South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer likes to treat the Charlotte area like his backyard when it comes to recruiting. The market is close to Columbia and filled with plenty of big-time prospects. One Beamer and his defensive line coach Travian Robertson really like for the 2027 class is DT Jesiah Fields (6-4 245) of Corvian Community School.
“It’s a great relationship going on between me and South Carolina,” Fields said. “We’re staying very connected with each other, texting almost every day, calling almost every day. It’s a very, very strong relationship.”
Fields has made three visits to USC, for the spring game in April and for camps the last two summers. Robertson has watched him closely in camp settings and apparently sees a prospect who could be disruptive on his defensive line.
“Definitely my size, he really likes that,” Fields said. “He likes how I can get off the ball. He also likes how I can use my hands very well. He said I’ll be a five-technique or a three-technique as a I continue to grow and get bigger.”
Fields plans to return to Columbia for his first real football game next month when the Gamecocks play host to South Carolina State. At this stage of his recruiting, Fields said the Gamecocks are in a strong spot with him.
“They are very high on my recruiting right now,” he said. “Very high, yeah. It felt like I was definitely welcomed when I came there. That feeling of welcome, I definitely got that.”
This summer Fields also camped at Kentucky, Ohio State, Tennessee , Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech and NC State. Besides USC, he will also take in games at other offering programs. Those include Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Southern Cal, Virginia Tech, Louisville and NC State.
Fields said as he makes visits this fall there will be a few things he’ll be looking for to determine if that school makes the cut with him down the road.
“Definitely the location, the culture that the school has, the relationship that I have with the coaches before I come into the school, and somewhere where I feel safe, like walking into my house every day. I want to feel that way walking to the school or the football facility.”
Fields, who recorded 16 tackles for loss and one sack last season, said he’d like to make his decision about year from now.
Sounds like a Gamecock!!!
