STRecruiting Notebook: Wingo stays in Sunshine State with Miami; USC offers new in-state 2026 prospect

After picking up a commitment from OT Kamari Blair on Wednesday, South Carolina had hoped to follow up on Thursday with a commitment from WR Somourian Wingo (6-2 175) of Saint Augustine, FL. However, Wingo decided to stay in his own state and committed to Miami. Florida was the other school on his short list. Last season Wingo caught 71 passes for 1119 yards and 14 touchdowns.

South Carolina today offered SAF Triston Lewis (6-4 200) of Greenwood for the 2026 class. Based on his social media posts, the Gamecocks are the first major program to offer him. Lewis plays quarterback for the Eagles, but worked out at safety in camp for USC secondary coach Torrian Gray.

A report by Rivals says LSU has moved to the top, or near the top, with South Carolina target OT Darius Gray. The report credited the Gamecocks with having been at the top with Gray at various times, but said LSU had overtaken the Gamecocks and the other finalists, Clemson, Ohio State and Tennessee.

2027 RB Brayden Tyson (6-0 215) of Snellville, GA has South Carolina in his top eight. The others are North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, Georgia and Rutgers.

2028 Daniel QB Jace Grass was offered by Jacksonville State.

South Carolina baseball coach Paul Mainieri said Wednesday another one of his signees, RHP Luke Roupe of North Myrtle Beach, who was drafted in the 17th round by the Brewers, will sign a pro contract. Catcher Noah Franklin, 17th round pick of the Rangers, will also sign.

South Carolina women offered 2027 5-11 Sydney Savoury of Belleville, MI.
