STRecruiting: TE Caden Ramsey gives an update on his recruiting and South Carolina

Caden Ramsey

TE Caden Ramsey (6-5 210) of Cross was offered by South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and tight ends coach Shawn Elliott in late June, after the NCAA dead period had started. He was not able to make an official visit during that contact period, but he’s hoping to do so as soon as he can.

“They call every day, and they text every day, Coach Elliott and Shane Beamer,” Ramsey said.  “We were talking about an official visit.”

How soon that will take place is the question. The new NCAA Recruiting Calendar for 2025-26 has just been published, and all of August, just like July, is a dead period, so no official visits can take place. The earliest they can resume will be September.

Regardless of when the visit takes place, Ramsey is ready to make things official with the Gamecocks.

I think that might be somewhere where I need to go home, need a new place,” Ramsey said.  “I think I just want to commit now. I’m going to wait until after the official visit. I haven’t told them yet.  I’ve been feeling it for a good while.  It’s not too far from home, basically is home.  The coaches are like dads and family and things.  And the environment there.”

Ramsey has spent the summer working on fine tuning his talents for tight end, which is a new position for him as he moves in from wide receiver. He’s been working with his head coach Shawn Wright, as well as with former USC and NFL receiver Bruce Ellington.

“I met him through my coach,” Ramsey said.  “He brought him to the school one day and he introduced us to him.  That’s how I found out he played in the NFL, and he went to South Carolina.  I just started working out with him and got close. When he found out teams were offering me for tight end, that’s when he started putting me on the ground, in a three-point stance and stuff like that.”

Ramsey has also picked up offers from Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Virginia Tech among the major programs. He also said Alabama and Auburn had recently contact him.

Ramsey had 46 catches for 749 yards and nine touchdowns last season. As further evidence about his overall athletic skills, he had 13 interceptions as a safety. And in basketball last season he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.
