One of the top overall athletes in South Carolina, WR Sequel Patterson (6-0 165) of Indian Land, publicly committed to South Carolina Thursday night. Patterson, who announced on June 1at that he was reclassifying from 2027 to 2026, chose the Gamecocks over Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Patterson made his lone official visit to USC the weekend of June 20th. He also made spring stops to Texas A&M, Tennessee and Florida State.
Patterson said USC head coach Shane Beamer and receivers coach Mike Furrey did a great job recruiting him and convinced him that staying in-state was his best move.
“I knew about a month ago,” Patterson said after announcing his commitment on the 247Sport YouTube Channel. “I had a conversation with Coach Furrey. We had a heart to heart, and it went from there. I always knew I wanted to be a Gamecock.”
“South Carolina has always had a special place in my heart with me being from South Carolina,” Patterson continued. “Coach Furrey and those guys, and Coach Beamer, they showed nothing but love. The best stay home. They made it hard on me. The guys like Brian Rowe, Mazeo Bennett, all them guys, they made it real special for me.”
Last season Patters had 52 catches for 758 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 15 yards per reception. He also rushed for 441 yards and three touchdowns.
Patterson also plays defensive back. Last season he was in on 23 total tackles with eight pass deflections and two interceptions.
He’s also a member of the Indian Land basketball team and averaged 14 points per game last season, and he is a high jumper for the track and field team. He finished second in the 5A-D2 championship in May.
“I’ve just got it in me. I got that dog in me. My whole mentality,” Patterson said. “I’m trying to build something special with the receiver room they’ve already got. With guys like me coming in, we’ve just building something special. I’ll bring that mentality, that fire that I’ve got with me. I’m also smart and I’m just ready to work.”
Patterson is the first wide receiver to commit to the Gamecocks for their 2026 class, and he’s their ninth commitment overall.
