STRecruiting: Suddenly hot Upstate receiver to visit South Carolina this week, camp at Clemson next week

Amiri Acker

WR Amiri Acker (6-2 186) of Crescent caught fire on the recruiting trail just as he’s wrapped up a blistering track season. Acker has garnered several P4 offers in recent weeks. At the same time, he earned 3A All-State honors in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4X100 relay and the 4X400 relay.

That track speed, along with his size and ball tracking ability, impressed South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey. He has checked out Acker in person and will have limon campus Friday for an unofficial visit.

“We had talked it up a little bit, and then he came to visit again, early morning during my weight-lifting class,” Acker said.  “Me and my dad, we talked a lot about the real stuff, about how the recruiting goes, about what coaches tell you, if they are lies or not.  Last week he came to see me practice and he hit up Coach (Shane) Beamer for me and told him all about me.”

Acker is excited about the trip to Columbia Friday over the possibility he might leave with an offer from the Gamecocks.

“The way they are talking, I think I’m getting offered for sure,” Acker said.  “Hopefully, that’s the deal.  That would really blow me up a lot.  Our high school would get noticed more coming from Iva, South Carolina, a small town.  I think it’s great to get one from a P4 school and the SEC.  It’s just a great opportunity for me to go show the world who I am.”

Acker added that Clemson has also taken notice of him, and he has talked with receivers coach Tyler Grisham. He plans to camp at Clemson on June 4th. He has no other camp stops planned at this point.

Acker has scheduled official visits to Kentucky for June 6th and to Liberty for June 13th. An offer from USC would also lead to an official visit. Some of his other offers include NC State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Troy, Georgia Southern, East Carolina, Marshall and USF.

Last season Acker caught 28 passes for 604 yards and six touchdowns.
