It took a while for the Clemson offense to show up on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the Upstate. But once it did, there was no stopping the Tigers.
Clemson scored eight times in the seventh inning to rally past Davidson 11-4 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The victory finished off a series sweep of the Wildcats and improved the Tigers to 15-1 on the season. Davidson dropped its fourth game in a row, all in the state of South Carolina, to fall to 4-10 on the season. USC tamed the Wildcats 7-3 on Tuesday in Columbia.
Davidson got on the board first thanks to a two-out rally in the top of the third inning. The Wildcats plated three runs in the inning, capped by Chris Schuchart’s two-run single. Cider Canon laced a solo homer in the fourth inning to put the visitors ahead 4-0.
The Tigers dented the scoreboard in the sixth inning with two runs, then Cam Cannarella gave Clemson a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning with a three-run homer, his first of the year. Later in the frame, Tristan Bissetta lofted a sacrifice fly, then Dominic Listi lined a two-out, three-run double, and Jarren Purify ripped a run-scoring single. Bissetta hit another sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Reed Garris (1-0) earned the win in relief, while Brycen Champey (0-4) suffered the loss.
The Tigers host Liberty in a two-game midweek series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, beginning Tuesday at 4 p.m.
