South Carolina’s work in the NCAA Transfer Portal continued to pay dividends late Wednesday night with a commitment from LB Andrew Jones (6-2 220) of Grambling. Jones was the Gamecocks’ third pull from the Portal on Wednesday, and he is the fifth transfer overall to commitment and/or sign with USC since the Portal window opened.
Jones was the SWAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year after totalling 122 tackles with 20.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. He led the SWAC in total tackles and was sixth nationally in the FCS. He was second in the league and fourth in the FCS in tackles for loss.
Jones is a native of Marrero, LA. He began his career at Memphis and redshirted in 2021. He left for Grambling after the 2022 season in which he played in ten games and made four tackles.
Jones also had offers in the transfer market from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, USF, Georgia State, UTEP and Western Kentucky. He gives the Gamecocks five linebackers in their 2025 class of newcomers which now numbers 30.
