
Iowa State ran into an angry group of USC women basketball players Thursday afternoon in Fort Myers, FL. Coming off their loss to UCLA last Sunday that broke their 43 game winning streak and cost them the #1 ranking in the AP Poll, the Gamecocks hit the Cyclones with a 32-0 run in the first half and cruised to a 76-36 victory.
The Gamecocks held Iowa State scoreless for nearly 15 minutes during that stretch and led 35-9 at halftime. Iowa State did get back to within 17 points in the third quarter, but the Gamecocks built the lead back kto 26 by quarter’s end and pulled away again with a 23-9 fourth quarter advantage.
USC held Iowa State to 23% shooting and outscored the Cyclones in the paint 42-14.
Freshman Joyce Edwards led the Gamecocks with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sanie Feagin also scored 13 points.
The Gamecocks are 6-1 and will play Purdue Saturday morning.
