The Charleston Southern Buccaneers followed their “Bloody Tuesday” with a “Welcome Wednesday” for SportsTalk. Second year coach Gabe Giardina, a former kicker at Alabama, loves to put his team through physical Tuesday practices, thus the nickname. The Bucs actually scrimmaged this Tuesday before SportsTalk arrived Wednesday night for the annual visit.
The Bucs were 4-7 last season inclulding a 2-4 mark in conference play. The offense struggled to the tune of 16 points per game. The defense, which was left on the field more than it should be, allowed 29 points per game, including 66 points to Clemson and 77 points to Western Carolina.
The Bucs went through the normal transitional growing pains with a new head coach last season. Giardina believes they will be an improved team in 2024. The Bucs will be tested from the start with games against The Citadel, Furman and Richmond to open the season.
