Hammond School TE Mike Tyler (6-5 225) will take his fourth and final official visit of the month this weekend as he travels to LSU for the second time in the month. Tyler was there for an unofficial visit on June 11th.
The Tigers started to recruit him diligently in the spring and that effort is paying off for them at this point.
“They came to our spring practice, and ever since then, it took off,” Tyler said. “I’d say I’m interested a lot because it’s my second time going down there in two weeks.”
As for his three previous visits, Tyler said, ” “I loved West Virginia. I loved Duke. NC State was OK.
South Carolina had been a major player with Tyler since Jody Wright offered him in November. Wright left and Justin Stepp took over at tight end and picked up the recruiting on Tyler. Stepp left and Shawn Elliott is now handling and recruiting tight ends.
Tyler visited USC for the Clemson game last season and he returned for a junior day in early February. Right now, he does not have a plan to take an official visit with the Gamecocks.
“We just haven’t been talking that much recently, from both parties,” Tyler said. “I was a little surprised, but you can’t dwell on it. My family and Coach (Shane) Beamer felt like it was best to wait to see if there was a better time to schedule an official visit. I’d say there’s a chance in the fall.”
Tyler said he does not have a favorite at this point and is looking at late July or August for making his decision.
