South Carolina offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley paid a visit to Louisville this week for a visit with OC Isaac Sowells (6-2 292). The two have known each other for nearly a year. Sowells camped at USC last summer, so he got some close-up attention from Teasley. Their relationship seems to be growing stronger over time.
“I’d say we’re at a really good point,” Sowells said. “He came and talked to me, and we talked some ball. I’ll be coming for a spring visit sometime hopefully in March. I’d say we’re both just moving through the process well. Coach Teasley is a real good guy, down to earth family man. Just a guy that you can relate to. Seems like he’s a good coach. He’s a real great recruiter seeing how he got Kam (Pringle) and Josiah (Thompson). Just a real great guy overall.”
Sowells returned to USC last November for the Kentucky game under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium. That turned out to be a big win for the Gamecocks in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd. Sowells loved it.
“It was rocking,” Sowells said. “Seeing that the fans are all into it, one big thing for me is I don’t want to play in empty stadiums, so seeing Williams-Brice Stadium jumping like that was the thing that really drew me in.”
Sowells had a busy January with visits to West Virginia, Louisville, Miami and NC State. This weekend he is going to Indiana and Kentucky. He said he has some favorites in his mind right now, and the Gamecocks are among the ones he’s thinking about as a strong contender.
“With them, I’d say they are at the top of the list with some other schools, maybe four to five right now, but there’s still time for things to change,” Sowells said. ”I haven’t really put too much thought into it, so I really don’t know, but I’d say they are in the pack of them. I’ll commit between June and August, but I’ll start narrowing it down by the time May comes.
Some of the other offers for the First Team All-State center, who grew up a Notre Dame fans, are Penn State, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, South Florida, Duke and Virginia.
