Around Clemson these days, “turnovers” is a four-letter word. And though the Tigers are even in the turnover margin category, Dabo Swinney says those mistakes are the reason his team is 2-2 after Saturday’s loss to Florida State.
“We’ve just been horrendous,” Swinney told the media on Tuesday. “It’s not just turnovers; it’s where they are. We’re 2-2 simply because of the ball.”
Ironically, the Tigers face another team this week where turnovers could prove to be the difference. In last year’s matchup with Syracuse, Clemson coughed it up four times, though they were able to pull out a 27-21 victory at home.
“I put this game in a black hole somewhere,” Swinney recalled when he watched the film of last year’s matchup with the Orange. “I had actually forgotten all about it. I was nauseous. That was a weird game.”
The Tigers will face their second straight noon start on Saturday at Syracuse. The game will be televised by ABC.
