USC football is closing in on its season opener over Labor Day weekend against Georgia State. The Gamecocks are favored by about two touchdowns over the Panthers, who are under the direction of former USC coach Shawn Elliott.
On Tuesday, several Gamecock players met with the media to discuss preseason camp and recap this past Saturday’s scrimmage. Backup quarterback Luke Doty noted that he is 100% recovered from the foot injury that sidelined him in the middle of last season. Meantime, multi-purpose threat Dakereon Joyner said the offense played much cleaner in Saturday’s workout and the unit was much more efficient in the second scrimmage. Joyner smiled when asked what his role in the offense would be, making sure not to give away too much of the season’s gameplan.
