#STRecruiting: Elite North Carolina pass rusher locks in official visit with #Gamecocks

Jaybron Harvey

USC defensive coordinator Clayton White has his eyes on one of the nation’s top quarterback hunters from last season. DE Jaybron Harvey (6-3 217) of Durham, NC nailed the quarterback 28.5 times in 2021 as he accumulated 129 total tackles. White began to recruit Harvey in January and the two hit it off, so much so that Harvey has set an official visit with the Gamecocks for June.

“We’ve been talking about how I fit in the scheme, how they see me fit in there and how they are going to play me,” Harvey said of his conversations with White. “He said I have a knack for sacking the quarterback and a great twitch.”

While White obviously thinks highly of Harvey, the sack-master feels likewise about the coach.

“I think he’s a great coach,” Harvey said.  “We’ve been talking so much that he’s been like family.”

Harvey’s only visit to USC was for the Kentucky game last season, so he’s had a small taste of what Shane Beamer is trying to develop in Columbia.

“The atmosphere was crazy,” Harvey said.  “I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about them. They are building a great program down there.”

Harvey has set his official visit to USC for June 10th, in between visits to North Carolina and Louisville. He’s also looking at Michigan and Pitt for possible official visits. He was able to visit North Carolina, Louisville, Duke, Ohio State and Wake Forest in the spring.

Some of his other offers include Coastal Carolina, Duke, Penn State, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Appalachian State, Mississippi State, Washington, Virginia, Florida, East Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Rutgers and West Virginia. He’d like to make his decision in mid-July.

Harvey is friends with USC signee DT D’Andre Martin who is also from Durham though he played last season in Virginia.
