Kingston previews #Gamecocks opening weekend (AUDIO)

Gamecocks head coach Mark Kingston has tabbed righthander Will Sanders as his opening day starter

Gamecocks head baseball coach Mark Kingston met with the media via Zoom, Thursday, and fielded questions on the starting rotation, where his club has improved during the offseason and what he loves most about Opening Day.

Righthander Will Sanders will get the nod as the Game 1 starter following a terrific freshman campaign. Junior College transfer James Hicks will take the mound in Game 2, and southpaw Josiah Sightler is scheduled to start Game 3, Sunday. Lefthander Julian Bosnic, expected to be a part of the weekend rotation, is unavailable as he recovers from a flexor strain.

Kingston said he expects to see an improved offensive group in 2022, “I think you’ll see a little more athleticism, more left-handed options, and I think you’ll see a group of guys in our lineup that will strike out less than we did last year.”

South Carolina opens its season against UNC Greensboro at Founders Park, Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
