USC men’s basketball newcomers discuss joining the #Gamecocks (AUDIO)

USC head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin overhauled his roster during the offseason following a disappointing 6-15 campaign last season. On Thursday, the six newcomers: Chico Carter Jr., Josh Gray, Brandon Martin, James Reese, Erik Stevenson and AJ Wilson met with the media to discuss their decision to choose the Gamecocks and how offseason preparations are going.

Reese (AC Flora) and Carter (Cardinal Newman) each reflected on their choice to return to Columbia and what it would mean to help turn USC’s fortunes around. Stevenson, a native of Washington state, says he likes USC’s system much more so than the humidity. He also expressed that his college plan hasn’t quite worked like he hoped following transfers from Wichita State and Washington.

Meantime, Gray told the tale of his transfer from SEC rival LSU to USC and how much good nutrition plays a role in his basketball career. Wilson noted that his ability to rebound and block shots should be a huge asset to the Gamecocks this season. While Brandon Martin touched on the unique dynamic of transferring from USC-Upstate to play for his father at Carolina.
