Team USA women’s basketball is in the final stages of its preparation for the Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan. The team is helmed by USC head coach and three-time Olympic gold medalist Dawn Staley. The squad is also led by stalwarts such as Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird, as well as up-and-coming stars Breanna Stewart and former Gamecock A’ja Wilson. Play is set to begin on July 25th with the first group stage game, and conclude on August 8th with the gold medal contest.

Before Staley’s troops embark on their quest for a seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal, she met with the media on Tuesday to preview the summer games. Staley broke down the challenges she’s faced in taking on the role as head coach of Team USA. She also referenced how winning the bronze medal in 1992 has helped fuel Team USA’s current forty-nine game Olympic winning streak. Plus, what Covid-19 hurdles the players and staff will have to maneuver, prior to and during their visit to Japan.
