USC head baseball coach Mark Kingston met with the media on Thursday to size up this weekend’s SEC series with 4th ranked Mississippi State. One of the biggest notes from the presser was the Gamecocks will have a different pitching rotation against the Bulldogs. Thomas Farr, who has been Carolina’s Friday night starter, will be replaced by Brannon Jordan. Farr is 0-5 against SEC competition and Kingston says the move is an attempt to change USC’s luck.
“We just need to spark it, we want to do something to change up some of the mojo”, Kingston said in explaining the decision. “All three pitchers deserve to be weekend starters right now, but obviously we haven’t had the kind of success overall that we’ve wanted to. And so, sometimes you’ve got to try some things and see what it looks like.”
Jordan, the normal Saturday pitcher, is 4-3 on the season with a 3.42 ERA. Will Sanders will move up to the Saturday slot with Farr scheduled to pitch the series finale on Sunday.
Kingston also discussed the early announcement of regional host sites, what Gamecock fans should expect to see from the Bulldogs this weekend, and how managing Brady Allen’s spot in the lineup is critically important to his team.
