A blistering scoring run from the opposition, combined with some shooting woes – all in the second half – spelled trouble as Clemson fell to Miami 67-64 in the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, NC, Wednesday.
Clemson found a groove early on in the game, making their first four shots from the field, all from behind the arc as Hunter Tyson and Aamir Simms each knocked down two 3-pointers apiece.
Miami used a scoring 14-2 scoring over a five minute stretch in the middle of the second half to gain the upper hand. To compound things, Clemson dealt with a pair of two-plus minute stretches where they went scoreless. Clyde Trapp made a three pointer and Al-Amir Dawes hit two free throws to pull the Tigers within a 65-64 margin with 35 seconds to play, but it wouldn’t be enough.
For the game, the Tigers were 23 for 49 (46.9%) from the field, compared to 29 for 54 (53.7%) for the Hurricanes. Clemson (16-7 overall) will now wait until Sunday, March 14th, to find out who their first round opponent in the NCAA Tournament will be. The tournament will be in Indianapolis, spread out across six different venues.
