18th ranked Virginia is known as an outstanding defensive team. Clemson saw that first hand Saturday night at Littlejohn Coliseum. The 12th ranked Tigers fell into a 31-7 first half hole and never came close to recovering in losing 85-50. The loss is Clemson’s 11th straight to the Cavaliers.
The Tigers made just 3 of their first 20 shots in their first game back after a week long Covid-19 interruption. At the same time, the Cavaliers made 13 of their first 22 shots in the first half. And for good measure, they came out of the locker room in the second half and made 17 of their first 19 shots as the lead ballooned to 39 points.
Virginia finished with a 61% shooting night including 15 of 27 from three point range. Clemson was just 5-23 from distance and shot 40% from the floor. The Tigers did not have a double-digit scorer. They were led by freshman PJ Hall with 8 points. Leading scorer Aamir Simms managed just 2 points on 1-9 shooting.
The loss drops Clemson to 9-2 and 3-2 in the ACC. The Tigers are scheduled to play at Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.
