Jake Helfrich

USC is getting another quarterback for the 2021 roster. Jake Helfrich (5-11 190) of Charlotte tweeted Friday that he has accepted a PWO offer from the Gamecocks. Helfrich will join a quarterback room that right now has only two scholarship players….Luke Doty and Colten Gauthier. There’s a strong likelihood quarterback Jason Brown will transfer to the Gamecocks in March and compete in the spring. Last season Helfrich passed for 1418 yards and 13 touchdowns. He completed 106 of 192 pass attempts.

Dennis Brunson of the Sumter Item reached DT Jahkeem Green of Sumter and a Nebraska transfer, and he confirmed that he’s now set to head to USC and begin class next week.

USC offered 2022 Kajuan Banks (5-10 170) of Tallahassee. He also has offers from Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Troy, South Florida, Louisville, Washington State, Buffalo, FAU, Ole Miss and Maryland. He has not yet been rated in the 247Sports Composite. In his career, Banks has 79 tackles with 3 interceptions and 12 passes defended.

USC offered 2022 DE J’Mond Tapp (6-3 240) of Donaldsonville, LA. He’s rated a four-star prospect and is ranked the #10 weakside defensive end in the ccountry for his class in the 247Sports Compositie. This past season he had 65 tackles with 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also has offers from Washington State, Indiana, Georgia, Memphis, Tulane, Colorado, Mississippi State, Penn State, Southern Miss, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Kansas.

USC offered 2022 DE Quency Wiggins (6-6 265) Baton Rouge, LA. He’s a three-star rated prospect in the 247Sports Composite and ranked the #31 strongside defensive end nationally. He also has offers from LSU, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Baylor, Southern Cal, South Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Memphis, Indiana, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Ole Miss, Arizona, Tulane, Tennessee, Kansas State, Louisville and UCF.

USC offered 2022 DE Jeremiah Alexander (6-2 235) of Alabaster, AL. He’s a teammate of Gamecock signee Sam Reynolds and he was once committed to Alabama. Alexander is rated as a five-star prospect, the #1 weakside defensive end nationally and the #1 prospect in Alabama for the class. In his career he’s recorded 299 tackles with 70 tackles for loss and 23 sacks. On New Year’s Day he issued a top six of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and Florida.

USC offered 2022 DT Dominick “Nick” James (6-2 270) of IMG Academy in Florida. He’s rated a four-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite and the #12 defensive tackle prospect in the country. He’s a native of Prattville, AL. In 2019 he had 48 tackles with 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. This past season he was in on 30 tackles with 1 sack and 1 interception. In November James named a top 11 of Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State and Southern Cal.

USC offered 2022 TE Tyrus Washington (6-4 230) of Leesburg, GA. He’s a teammate of Gamecock signee RB Caleb McDowell. Washington has not yet been rated in the 247Sports Composite. His offers also include Maryland, Tennessee, Troy, FAU, Arkansas, USF, Coastal Carolina, Pitt, Ole Miss, Boston College, Charlotte and Cincinnati.

USC offered 2022 WR Isaiah Sategna (5-11 170) of Fayetteville, AR. He’s also a track athlete. Father is a track assistant at Arkansas and mother was a track Olympian from LSU. He’s rated as a three-star prospect and the #4 prospect in Arkansas. Last two seasons he caught 76 passes for 1505 yards and 8 touchdowns. Some of his other offers are Arkansas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Florida State, Penn State, Auburn, Mississippi State, Kansas, Baylor, Southern Cal, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, Colorado and Nebraska.

USC offered 2023 RB Drew Pickett (5-10 185) of Deatsville, AL. This season he rushed for 1352 yards and 11 touchdowns.

SAF Juwon Gaston of Montgomery, AL named a top three of USC, Tennessee and South Alabama.

USC has some interest in former Missouri DB Adam Sparks, a four year player who is in the transfer portal.

Clemson made the top 8 with LB Shawn Murphy of Manassas, VA.  The others are Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida and Oregon. 

Clemson is in the top 12 with 2022 CB Daylen Everette of Norfolk, VA and IMG Academy in Florida. The others are Virginia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Southern Cal, Alabama, Virginia, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

Former Dillon DE Shamar McCollum is transferring to Georgia State from Wake Forest.

Lakewood CB Zay Wells was offered by Bowling Green.

Colleton County OT Ian Shark commmitted to SC State.

2022 6-6 Julian Phillips of Blythewood was offered by Georgetown.
