Clemson’s long courtship of OL Carter Jones (6-6 290) of Poquoson, VA, was officially paid off on Monday with Jones announcing his commitment to the Tigers. The others in contention at the end were Tennessee, Penn State and Georgia.
Jones made official visits to his other finalists and is scheduled for his official visit to Clemson this weekend. But he has seen a lot of Clemson dating back to last spring. He camped with the Tigers last summer, was in for a game last season, and attended one of their recruiting events in March.
“Clemson separated themselves by culture, fit, development,” Jones said during his announcement via 247Sports. “Coach Luke is a phenomenal line coach. What Dabo Swinney has there, with the faith behind it and faith built into the program, really impressed me. I’ve always had Clemson as a high contender ever since I went down to camp. Since then, Clemson just grew on me.”
Jones is also excited about the opportunity to play for Luke once he arrives at Clemson.
“Coach Luke’s just a really good guy,” Jones said earlier this year. “He’s always been one of those coaches who likes to take accountability, and you can tell he loves to coach up his guys.”
Carter is the first offensive lineman to commit to the Tigers for their 2027 class, and the 11th commitment overall.
