STRecruiting: South Carolina lands one of its primary running back targets in Brayden Tyson

Brayden Tyson

One down and one to go for South Carolina coach Shane Beamer and running backs coach Stan Drayton when it comes to recruiting high school backs for the 2027 class. On Friday, the Gamecocks received a public commitment from Brayden Tyson (6-0 215) of Snellville, GA.

Tyson chose the Gamecocks over Florida State, Purdue and Rutgers. Miami had also been in the mix.

Tyson made his official visit with the Gamecocks the weekend of May 1st. He also visited USC for a game last season, and he made two visits to watch spring practices.

Tyson, whose father played defensive tackle at Georgia and in the NFL, is considered to be one of the top backs in the 2027 class. He also had offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and North Carolina, among others.

Last season he rushed for 1292 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a sophomore, he rushed for 2123 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Tyson is the Gamecocks’ first running back commitment for the class and the ninth overall. USC is also focused on Byrnes running back Tre Segarra, who is taking an official visit to Indiana this weekend.
