Clemson has ascended to the top of the heap in its pursuit of CB Kelvin Millington (6-3, 180) of Bogard, GA and it was the staff’s personal touch that made all the difference.
Back in January, Thomas Allen traveled to Georgia to see Millington during the contact period, and arrangements were made for the 2027 prospect to come out for a spring practice.
Millington already has plenty of interested suitors, which include Georgia, Wake Forest, and Alabama. He also holds offers from Cincinnati and UNLV. But it was a trip to Clemson lat month in between a visit to Georgia and an upcoming trip to Alabama, that changed everything.
“I went to Georgia and this definitely topped it, like, through the park,” Millington revealed. “It was, it was awesome. I felt very welcomed.”
What was it about Clemson’s staff that created such a different feeling from the one back in Athens? For Millington, it was the intentionality of the staff that stood out, knowing his background and ensuring the North Oconee standout met every single coach. With that, Clemson easily skyrocketed up his list, and the Tigers are likely the ones to beat.
“They made it seem like they wanted me there, and I wasn’t just one of the hundreds of recruits they just decided to put on a visit,” he said. “It felt very personalized. They knew all my stats and stuff and introduced me to every single coach on almost the entire staff, offense, defense, everyone. So like, I just really liked that.”
Meanwhile, programs like Navy, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, and others have begun their pursuits to match what Clemson has done, most notably the Aggies. Though Alabama still lingers as a team to watch, his trip to Clemson definitely moved the Tigers to the head of the class.
“The Naval Academy, Wake Forest, and Texas A&M have been pursuing me pretty hard, same as Alabama,” Millington explained. “So they’re up there, but I think Clemson, Clemson’s risen to the top of my board.”
Millington has also been this spring to Navy and Georgia, and he has set unofficial visits to Alabama for Friday and to Wake Forest for April 18th.
Clemson’s staff will check out Millington during North Oconee’s spring practice and evaluate his performance to determine if an offer is the next suitable step. On the flip side, Millington is eyeing a possible return in the spring, but that has not been ironed out just yet. Still, the Tigers hold plenty of momentum and are standing out amongst the rapidly rising competition.
Last season Millington recorded 64 tackles with 14 pass break ups and three interceptions.
