South Carolina 12-Upstate 3 Game Summary

Founders Park
  • The Gamecocks had 16 hits, their second highest total of the season, and four more than they had in the entire Clemson series last weekend.
  • The Gamecocks got out early, scoring three runs on five hits with the big hit a KJ Scobey two-run double. Upstate scratched two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at three.
  • USC opened the sixth with a pair of errors to put Scobey on third. He scored on Luke Yuhasz’s double to right. Aaron Jamison singled up the middle to make it 5-3. Dawson Harman doubled in Jamison and Patrick Evans’ first home run of the game gave Carolina an 8-3 lead.
  • The Gamecocks scored three runs in the seventh with a two-run Logan Sutter blast and a Harman RBI groundout. USC ended the scoring in the eighth on Evans’ second home run of the game.
  • Evans was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs while Yuhasz had three hits and two runs scored. Scobey and Ethan Lizama had two hits apiece.
  • Logan Prisco had his first start of the season and struck out five in four-plus innings, allowing two hits and an unearned run. Cooper Parks picked up the win, striking out a batter in a third of an inning.
  • The Gamecocks used seven pitchers on the night with Patrick Dudley closing out the game by going the final two innings. USC struck out 13 batters in the win.
  • Will Craddock was ill and did not play. X-Rays on his hand that was hit in Sunday’s game at Clemson were negative.
  • The Gamecocks improved to 8-5 and will host Charleston Southern Wednesday night. The Spartans are 7-7 and will play this weekend at Texas.

  1. The picture showing empty seats with no fan in sight speaks loudly. Being a midweek game against Upstate, you wouldn’t expect a large crowd, but to not see one fan behind the either dugout is just sad. The rate at which PM has built apathy in baseball, not seen in decades, is unprecedented.

    Ex-AD Ray Tanner sure knew how to hire some duds…
