#17-Clemson 3 — Army 2 (Game Summary)

  • Today’s game was the first ever meeting between Clemson and Army in baseball
  • Army got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the second to lead 1-0
  • The Black Knights increased the lead to 2-0 in the 7th on a solo HR from catcher Jack Quinlan
  • The Tigers tied the game on a 2-run HR from Jacob Jarrell in the bottom of the 7th
  • Clemson got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 8th inning on an RBI double from Nate Savoie
  • Savoie led the Tigers with three hits
  • Aidan Knaak got a no decision in his season-opening start for the Tigers. The right-hander gave up just 1 run (0 ER) on 3 hits with 6 K’s in three innings on the bump. Joe Allen tossed the final 1 & 2/3 innings to get the win for Clemson. Allen did not allow a run while surrendering two hits with three strikeouts. All told, Tiger pitching struck out 12 Army batters.
  • Quinlan led the Army offensive attack with three hits, a double, and a homerun
  • Attendance at Club DKS: 5,893 for the season opener
  • The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon
