  • Hokies went 2-5 from the floor to start; Tigers went 3-5, did not attempt a shot from distance. Three Clemson players scored in the first four minutes: Carter Welling, RJ Godfrey, & Nick Davidson.
  • The teams continued to go back & forth early in this game. Clemson made its last four shots, while the Hokies drained their last three leading up to the under-12 timeout in the first half. That added up to a 15-13 Tiger lead.
  • The game developed a punch, counterpunch feel through the first three segments. For every Clemson response, the Hokies had an answer. VT made their last five shots from the floor, adding up to a 26-24 Hokie lead.
  • The Hokies hit four of their last five shots to end the half, including a wide open Hansberry triple at the buzzer for a 40-33 lead.
  • VT shot 59 percent (16-27) and 7-11 from distance in the opening 20 minutes, while Clemson was at 54 percent (15-28), and two for five from 3-point land.
  • The Hokies made their last three shots before the under-16 stoppage in the second half, creating an eight-point advantage. Clemson’s Ace Buckner converted a 3-point play that pulled the Tigers within 40-38 before a 7-1 burst by VT.
  • A Nick Davidson three pulls the Tigers within an 8-point margin, only the third make from distance for Clemson at that point (3-9).
  • Jestin Porter hit another three out of the under-12 timeout, which cut it to a 52-47 deficit for the Tigers.
  • Buckner drilled a triple for the Tigers that cut it down to a 5-point game, 61-56, with 8:10 remaining.
  • The Hokies went on a 6-0 run over the next minute for a 67-56 lead. The Tigers got back to within five points with 2:36 to play, but Tech scored the next seven points to put the game on ice.
  • The Tigers made just three of their final 14 shots over the last 6:49. The Hokies were only 2-for-8 from the floor, but Ben Hammond made four straight free throws to prevent any Clemson rally.
  • Carter Welling led Clemson with 19 points, the only Tiger starter in double figures. Nick Davidson and Ace Buckner had 16 each off the bench.
  • Jailen Bedford hit four triples for Virginia Tech and led the Hokies with 23 points.
  • Clemson was only 5-16 from three compared to 11-21 for Virginia Tech.
  • The Hokies were a perfect 13-13 from the line while Clemson was only 11-18.
  • The Tigers had their four-game winning streak snapped, and they dropped out of a tie with Duke for the lead in the ACC. The Tigers play at Duke on Saturday.
  • Clemson is now 20-5 overall and 10-2 in the ACC. Tech is 17-8 and 6-6.
