2027 OT Carter Jones (6-6, 290) of Poquoson, Virginia, doesn’t have a problem when it comes to potential college suitors. His issue is narrowing down the field.
Carter recently revealed a “Top 10,” which he considered expanding to twelve. However, once he trimmed his list, Clemson was still among his favorites. The Tigers made the cut along with Florida, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Georgia.
“I was really excited about it (his Top 10) when I was making it, and you know, it was really hard,” Jones explained. “It was a really hard list for me to make, just I mean, Clemson for me was a no-brainer, and I had a few more no-brainers on the list, but it was a hard list to make.”
Clemson is one of Jones’ standout schools, continuing to make a serious effort to show the highly touted Virginia prospect that he’s one of their top priorities.
“Well, they’ve always been one of my top schools for me, and they’ve recruited me really hard and really showed a lot of effort to show me that I’m one of their No. 1 guys and the ’27 class,” he confessed. “That means a lot to me.”
Jones is planning to return to the Upstate in March for Clemson’s junior day, and the Tigers are currently a favorite to land an official visit with him at this time.
Outside of Clemson, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State have created separation in Jones’ recruitment. Hailing from Virginia, the pursuit from the two in-state ACC schools has been very strong from the beginning, and James Franklin’s added presence in Blacksburg certainly doesn’t hurt. As for what it will take for Clemson to remain at the top of the list.
“For me, it’s just gonna be us continuing to build our relationship and growing with the players and the coaches,” Jones explained. “That’s really what’s gonna be the main thing for me.”
