In the process of recruiting highly touted LB Sean Fox (6-5 210) of Indianapolis, Clemson coaches also took a liking to his older brother, SAF Steven Fox (6-3 205) of Hocking JC, OH.
Clemson defensive coordinator Tom Allen offered Steven Fox on Tuesday, and he will make an official visit to Clemson this weekend, joining his brother and around 30 other prospects for Clemson’s major recruiting weekend of the summer.
This will be the second visit to Clemson for both Foxes. They were in for a spring practice and recruiting event in early March.
“They offered my brother earlier on, and were showing interest in me when we visited, so we just kept going with that process, and they ended up offering,” Steven Fox said. “They really liked how aggressive I was on taking on blocks, and how rangy I was. They see me as a nickel safety, an overhang player.”
Having the chance to watch the Tigers practice while on that March visit gave Fox a good indication of what the Tigers like to do with their defense and secondary.
“The intensity of the practice was really good,” Fox said. “They had a really good culture. They had really good speed between each drill. Just the small stuff that makes the team great. And Coach Allen, I liked how hands-on he is. I liked how they do a lot of tackling. Just the fundamental stuff. I think that’s a big part.”
Clemson is the first P4 offer for Fox, so he has a good feeling toward the Tigers at this point, though he has another year to go in the junior college.
“I’m really happy about it,” Fox said. “I really love the culture they’ve got going on there, and how they’ve been winning for a long time. It’s great. I really love them.”
While thrilled over the offer, Fox said he’s not rushing his recruiting because he has another season of junior college ball left. He wants to see what other offers might roll in over time. He is eligible to sign and transfer in December.
Last season Fox had 48 tackles with eight tackles for loss, nine pass deflections and two interceptions.
