CB Kelvin Millington (6-4 185) of Bogart, GA has cut his list to a final three of USC, Texas Tech, and Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech was a fourth program under consideration, but no longer. Millington will take his first official visit to Columbia on June 5th, with trips to Lubbock and Blacksburg to follow the following two weekends. He’s looking at mid-July for a commitment announcement.
USC secondary coach Torrian Gray, long a seeker of tall corners, offered Millington six weeks ago. Millington then visited for the Gamecocks’ recruiting event on May 17th. In between, Gray made a pair of visits to Bogart to meet with Millington.
“It’s been really good, really good, and nd it seems like they do really want me there,” Millington said of his involvement with the Gamecocks. “From what I’ve heard from a lot of people and different former players I’ve talked with about this whole college recruiting process, you want to go where you’re wanted, not where you’re tolerated, and I definitely see that they want me to go to South Carolina. So that’s kind of where we’re at. They added me to the group chat. My family’s in there with all the coaches, and they’re always having great things to talk about. So yeah, it’s really good.”
Because of his height, Millington would provide Gray with several options for how to use him in the secondary.
“They’re going to play me at corner first, and then I’m going to have to prove to them that I’m not going to be able to play corner. And then they’ll be like, all right, sweet, we can move you to safety or nickel. Or if the corner depth is really long, they have like five to eight corners, and I won’t see the field, but at safety, if I’m better than whoever’s at safety, they’ll move me to safety. They like to say I’m just a DB in general, and I feel like this would be a great spot because Coach Gray coaches all the DBs, all the secondary. So I think it will be easier for me to move to a different position, having that flexibility with Coach Gray being in control of all of the secondary.”
Millington is now ready to do a deep dive into his three finalists through the official visits. There are boxes he plans to check off at each stop, and then he’ll make the call.
“I want to really see what the players are like, get a feel for the culture, and feel what the campus is like,” he said. Hopefully, we’ll go to the downtown area and get a feel of what the area is about. I definitely want to see the dorms because I’m probably going to be living there. So. I want to make sure it’s a nice little spot. And then, I hate to always bring it up, but with this age of recruiting and college football and NIL, I kind of want to know where I sit with those numbers.”
Millington is down to a final three. Does he have a number one going into his visits?
“No, not really. They’re all. up there,” Millington said. “I would say I’m leaning more towards South Carolina, mostly because I was recently down there, so it’s fresh on me. But the other two, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech, are both very good spots, and I feel myself fitting into both of those spots very well. So, I can’t really say.”
Last season, Millington had 62 tackles with 14 pass deflections and three interceptions.
