Postgame Notes – 89th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas

  • The Sandlappers struck on the first play from scrimmage as Jachin Davis (Stratford HS) found a wide open Zamaurious Robertson (Dillon HS) for an 80-yard touchdown.
  • On the ensuing North Carolina drive, Kentavion Anderson (Dorman HS) made a diving interception at the Tar Heel 49 yard line. However, the Sandlappers turned it over two plays later on a fumble.
  • The Tarheels s later answered with a four yard quarterback keeper by Brody Norman (Mooresville HS), tying the game at seven with 6:37 left in the first quarter.
  • Late in the second quarter, South Carolina put together a six-play drive that was capped off by a 35 yard Will Love field goal with 4:55 left in the first half.
  • On the opening drive of the third quarter, North Carolina drove down deep into Sandlapper territory. However, South Carolina’s defense stopped the Tarheels on four straight goal-to-go plays, including a tackle for loss by Caden Ramsey (Cross HS) on fourth down.
  • After a Tarheel punt with less than seven minutes left in regulation, South Carolina orchestrated a game-clinching nine-play, 63-yard drive. Davis dropped back and fired a pass to Jude Hall (Christ Church), who made a spectacular one-handed grab for the touchdown with 1:29 left. 
  • North Carolina MVPS – Brody Norman (Mooresville HS, offense) and Cameron Cartlidge (Mountain Heritage HS, defense). 
  • South Carolina MVPS – Jachin Davis (Stratford HS, offense) and Terry Radford (Chester HS, defense)
  • South Carolina now leads the series 48-34-7
