2027 CB Aamaury Fountain (6-3 190) of Warner Robins, GA, continues to blow up on the recruiting scene after one season in the secondary. He had been a quarterback at Northside High before moving to corner. Michigan, Alabama, Nebraska, Texas, North Caroline, Florida and Georgia are some of the major programs to offer him in recent months.
South Carolina offered Fountain in early October, and last Saturday was his first time visiting for a game. Despite the outcome, Fountain was pleased with how he was treated by the staff and the recruiting department. He also talked with secondary coach Torrian Gray.
“Coach Gray, he was like, truth be told, this is home,” Fountain said. “I loved the environment. He said I’ll love it, and he’ll prepare me well. They run a lot of man, and I’m a man guy anyway. I like going cover zero. I like going up against the best receiver. He’s like, we run a lot of man, so you’ll get on the island a lot. That’s what you enjoy.”
The visit definitely pumped up the Gamecocks’ chances with Fountain, who will have his choice of top programs come next year.
“I definitely like South Carolina. I like what they’re doing,” he said. “There are a couple of games they could have won, but you never know what’s going to happen in college football, but I like the way they operate. South Carolina is definitely one of the schools to watch. I do feel strongly about them. Their record doesn’t define them. I wouldn’t count them out.”
This season, Fountain also made it to games at Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Florida State. He plans to drop a top 12 in late December or early January, then go through the process of junior days and spring visits. In particular, he wants to watch teams work during the spring.
“I want to see practices,” Fountain said. “It sounds crazy, but I want to see how a team operates. Practice means a lot.”
Also important to Fountain as he goes through the recruiting process will be the opportunity for early playing time.
‘”I feel like I can go play anywhere in the country as a freshman,” Fountain said. “I’m 6-3, 190. I’ve got good ball skills in coverage. I can move. So, definitely a factor is playing time. I know I’m going to have to compete regardless of where I am, which is fine with me. I just want to see the field as a true freshman.”
