STRecruiting Notebook 12-2: South Carolina target RB Carsyn Baker breaks Florida pledge; ’27 CB has USC in top six

The chances of South Carolina picking up RB Carsyn Baker of Fairburn, GA, improved substantially Monday night when Baker announced a decommitment from Florida. He made an official visit to USC last weekend. He’s also been considering North Carolina and Kentucky, but with the Wildcats and Gators going through a coaching change, it appears his decision Wednesday will come down to the Gamecocks and Tar Heels. He made his official visit to Chapel Hill the weekend before visiting Columbia. The Gamecocks made Baker their top running back target until he committed to Florida in June. They then turned their efforts to Amari Thomas of Blountstown, FL, after he decommitted from Florida State, and landed his commitment. But last month, Thomas reversed course and re-committed to the Seminoles. According to stats posted on MaxPreps, Baker had 56 carries in ten games this season, but averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. He rushed for 539 yards and eight touchdowns. Last season, he rushed for 1260 yards and 13 touchdowns.

2027 CB Zay Hasan of Durham has South Carolina in his final six, along with North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

South Carolina target 2027 DE Marvin Nguetsop was offered by Texas.

2027 DE Jaden Wuerth of Dutch Fork was offered by Duke.

2027 LB Nigel Rock of Southside Christian (6-3 230) visited Virginia last Saturday.

Anderson DB Darrion Perry is transferring to Tarleton State.
